If I glow it’s because of cell phone radiation, right?
The FDA is still wishy-washy about the safety of emitted radiation levels of today’s cell phones. I would say that it’s safe to err on the side of less-is-better… and CNET has compiled a chart of radiation levels for just about every phone out there that hasn’t yet been discontinued.
The Motorola V3M that I’d been using for 2 years (and recently bequeathed to Ben) has a level of 1.14 and my new LG enV(2) has a level of 1.34.
The range for all tested cell phones is 0.135 to 1.6 so I guess we’re not doing ourselves any favors if it turns out that cell phone radiation really does increase the levels of brain tumors or warts or whatever. I don’t know… I think I’m already fairly boned because I grew up in a town that sported a nuclear power plant.
Green glowing ears, fingers and toes are normal, right?
Now maybe I’m misunderstanding this, but isn’t SAR a pretty close analog of signal strength, a thing that we all presumably want? Not to mention that I thought that effects of radiation vary greatly depending on wavelength. Resonance and all that.
From what I’m seeing, I’m using my headset more and more; corded, thank you, not Bluetooth. And I’m thinking that maybe antenna design should be more high profile than it is now. But it also seems to me that we need way more data and way more SPECIFIC data before we’re really going to have any sense of what this all means.
It would be a shame if someday we look back on this period as a tragedy akin to when there were free unshielded X-ray machines in shoe stores.
I totally agree with the need for more specific data. Until then, because of those free and ignorant times before X-rays were known to cause Bad Stuff, I’d prefer to play it safe when possible.
I gotta be honest, exposure levels? PEL,SAR, C’mon, look at how things were back in the day, paint it with lead, wrap it in asbestos, pump it full of cfc’s, and power it up with a pcb transformer, look at the world now….
A bunch of people afraid of what? the same stuff that the world has had in myriad quantities for a half-century now, a world full of tree-hugging bisexual liberal hippies that are afraid of emitted radiation from thier own central nervous system’s impulses!!!
I admit, we haven’t done ourselves any favors, but how many of you have walked by a cellular tower or microvave repeater station with a field strength meter? People are cooked in thier own flesh daily, some of them by choice..
Let’s be realistic, if you wish to be free of RF emissions, you’re going to have to visit God or something of that nature, man made or naturally occuring, electromagnetism is everywhere, there is no escape, and the people who commit these crimes…. They surround you, killing you, milliwatt by milliwatt.
