Geek of the Week Archives

"I believe my geekiness started in the second grade. It's possible that my entire life has been based around a single even that occured when I refused to go to bed on time; I saw Star Trek: The Next Generation. I was already a fan of Mr. Wizard, but this Star Trek phenomenon was entirely new. I forced my parents to record reruns for me so I could watch it in the morning - or else I wouldn't go to sleep at night!

Since then, my life has been unconsciously directed towards the goal of becoming the twenty-first century version of Geordi. I didn't realize this of course; later the joys of math and physics would lure me in and soon enough I had graduated from college with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. It was the closest profession to "Rocket Scientist" that I could find.

This photo is from college graduation, when I and four of my classmates carried an eight foot long, sixty pound aircraft wing section which we had built down the hill for graduation. We were likely the most photographed group of people at graduation besides the KU basketball team."
